Pictured is a lesson at the English Conversation Cafe at Christ Church Butterfield. Recently, one man shared with us that when he, his wife, and daughters arrived in the US from the Middle East, they didn’t know the language, have a car, or know anyone here.
Then, only 45 days after moving here his wife died, and he and his daughters were alone mourning. They just stayed inside for months in their grief. Finally, a neighbor knocked on their door and asked if they were okay. They explained their situation. The neighbor drove them to a nearby church the next week and dropped them off. The people at the church welcomed them, took them to lunch, and got to know them. The church helped them learn English, get driver’s licenses, and helped the daughters get into school.
Now he is part of a church and loves helping others. He showed us pictures of neighbors he helps. He had tears in his eyes as he shared his story with us. It is truly a beautiful thing when the church can show the love of Jesus in this way!
